6 Ways to Greet Overwhelm with Grace

elements

I faced a path that led deep into the woods.

I had no idea where the path led.

I was filled with overwhelm with all that was happening and all that was ahead with me.

I stood where I was and tried to focus on my breathing. That didn’t work so well for me, my heart and chest felt tight and my breathing felt heavy and deep and slow.

I relaxed into my body even further. I opened my eyes. Instead of resting my hands on my stomach, I opened my hands, palms facing out and legs outstretched, resting. I closed my eyes and went back into the visualisation in my minds eye.

I took my first step onto the line, the line of crossover, onto this new path that’s ahead of me. I’m not ready to go further so I am a standing on this line. I’m lying down here for awhile too. I need some time.

I take a deep breath and I let it go.

What would happen if I just took one step forward?

I knew it was time to take that step forward – but how?

Deep breath.

As I sank deeper into my heart, this was what I found: curiosity.

Curiosity with an open heart helped me to take that step forward.

This was what helped me:

Opening my heart and allowing the overwhelm. Meeting it. Visualizing it as a ball of energy and moving it outside of my stomach, out of my body. Meeting that energy of overwhelm with some love and watching both energies intermingle and get to know each other.

Overwhelm said: I know you’re feeling overwhelmed. I understand. I’m gonna lay down here with you. You can take a look at me when you are ready. Even if it’s just one page at a time. One sentence at a time. One conversation. One question. That’s all. You don’t need to know where it will go, where it will lead you, the questions you will ask and the answers that you’ll get. Allow. Be open to all that comes to you. You’ve called it in – your soul did. The Universe is listening and providing. Allow it all to come. Receive. Step away and breathe. Come back again. Just one more step again. Allow. Receive.

That’s one of my strengths.

I am a conversation starter. I like to go pass the small talk. I want to know what makes you tick, what your dreams and passions are, what puts that sparkle in your eye, what makes you cry when no one is around. I want to get intimate with you in our conversation and in our connection. That is one of my gifts.

That is what I give to my students. I want to know how their day has been, their week, what’s their struggle, how they’re doing. I want them to unpack all that they’re carrying so that they can let go a little so that I can show them how to slow down and to focus on their breathing for a little while. To sing from their soul and to express themselves, to embody their Soul’s voice, their truth, to allow the light within them to shine, to be the mirror that reflects the beauty that they are back to them and to pour my love into all the places that are needing to be heard, seen and held.

This is what I do and this comes easily to me.

As I walk now, I see the paths ahead of me and I’m not afraid anymore. I’m not afraid of the uncertainty and the not knowing because I do not need to know. I know that the soil that I am walking on is where I am being held and supported. That my heart beats as one with with universe. That I am here living and doing this and creating all of this because this is what the Divine desires for me, what my Soul desires for me in this lifetime, so here is where I am and this is where I move forth.

I see myself back on the path and I’m walking back to where I started. I see all of you beautiful souls standing there, lingering where I was when I started too.

I know what I am meant to do now. I have walked this path before. I am here now to hold your hand as you step onto this crossover line. As you breathe into your own overwhelm and fear. I am here as you decide to lay down on this line for awhile, I am laying down beside you too. I am here holding your hand as you take your next step.

You are not alone.

I see you.

I hear you.

I feel you.

And so it is.

6 Steps to Greet Overwhelm with Grace

(1) When you feel overwhelmed – STOP! Where in your body do you feel it?

Breathe into this area of your body. Imagine that your breath is creating space here within yourself.

(2) Choose curiousity. Open your heart within yourself and to yourself.

Ask questions like, I wonder what would happen if I do this…or that?

(3) Breathe in and FEEL the overwhelm – fully.

Imagine it to be a colour, swirling in your body.

(4) Bring the energy (or colour) of Love and meet the energy (or colour) of Overwhelm with it.

Watch them mix and mingle, watch them do a little dance.

(5) Now give a Voice to Overwhelm (mixed with a little love) – What is it here to say to you?

Listen closely. Without judging yourself. Allow Overwhelm soul-full expression.

(6) Stay with Overwhelm for awhile. Keep breathing. Hold its hand. Then ask, what is just ONE next step that we can take together? One small step?

Allow that. Even if that means going for a walk, drinking a glass of water, talking to a friend.

At times it may be challenging for us to go through the process on our own. Write to me and let me know your struggle with navigating your feelings of overwhelm. I am here to support you.

How Falling Sick Grabbed My Attention & 5 Ways to Practice Detachment

elements

I was diagnosed with Vertigo / Inner Ear Imbalance 3 weeks ago.

The first question the doctor asked me – Were you very busy the day before?
I looked at her quizzically and said no. It was only on hindsight that I was able to see that I had not slept enough in the last 3 days – I had a late night, I had been stressed the week before in preparation for my singing and dance performance.

I had raised my bar of being busy

Yes – I was a little disappointed with myself – for getting to this place again, especially now, after the changes that I’ve made in my lifestyle. I received this diagnosis 4 years ago – when I was in Child Protection Services, when I was not taking care of myself.

I allowed these feelings to unfold. I allowed them space to breathe.

I did not allow any beat-up thoughts within my space.

I chose to be compassionate towards myself. I let go of everything, sank deeper within and listened. I prayed.

I’m sorry Vickie. Please forgive me Vickie. I love you Vickie. Thank you Vickie.

I believe that physical challenges with our bodies are linked to an underlying emotion, or energy within that is stuck or even unconscious. Our bodies truly know and hold the truth – such golden wisdom, only if we willing to pause, ask, listen and receive.

I asked my body: What are you telling me today?

The answer came very clearly to me: Stress management.

My stress manifested physically to grab my attention and this was a cycle I was ready to break. The root of my stress came from worrying and trying to be perfect or getting it “right”.

On hindsight I knew that if I did not receive this alarming call from my body – I would have simply skated over it, not even batted an eye on how I had passed through those couple of days. How often are we not listening to our bodies? The warning signs?

So yes, I chose to be grateful for that moment. I reached out to my soul family for healing. I am grateful to get connected to my love coach and for her guidance.

“Perfectionism is a self destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect, and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feelings of shame, judgment, and blame.” – Brene Brown

5 Ways to Practice Detachment

Focus on the Energy of Creation

I focus on the energy of that which I am creating. I practice detaching from the outcome. For example, I allow myself to be fully immersed as I sing a song while I record it, and share it on Facebook and DETACH from it needing to be perfect. Wanting to be perfect makes me feel very contracted in my body and frustrated in my headspace that I am “not getting it right”. By detaching, it allows me to feel free, to ENJOY what I am doing and to have FUN in the process. It naturally follows that the energy of joy that I embody is what I send out to all! Start with something small, so that it will be a good practice for you. For example, you could focus on the energy of your conversation or connection with someone rather than the final outcome – s a sales call, a conflict resolution. Ask yourself: How do I want to FEEL in this conversation, how do I want the person that I am speaking to to FEEL? In this way you are focusing on the space and quality of connection instead of being attached to the final outcome.

Intuitive Painting Practice

My personal painting practice as a Creativity Coach truly empowers me by strengthening my muscles of detachment. As I paint through the layers on a canvas, I let go of what I had painted previously. Detaching from the first, second, third layer as I keep creating. I am also detached from the final outcome and I am fully immersed in the process of creation. I detach from the outcome and trust deeply in the process.

It is very much like how a Mother carries her child in her Womb space. There is a deep trust and faith in God, in the growth of her child in her womb. As the seed is planted, through the process of growth and germination, a Mother takes action to the best of her ability and then she surrenders to a greater power, a higher source. She lives and breathes in the gap of creation. There is infinite possibility in the creation and birth of her child.

I love seeing the Canvas for the painting process as a sacred Womb for birthing our Soul’s highest expression. This practice enables to live my life by looking for the infinite possibility in every situation instead of looking at the blocks and obstacles. There is always a way. Often times, I am the way.

Body Scans

I check in with myself during the day.

I breathe in and out, feel the rise and fall of my chest and tune in to my body. I start my focusing on my feet, and slowly move my attention to my legs, my knees all the way up to my head.

I ask myself: Am I RELAXED?

I have a tendency to clench my stomach and this practice allows me to let go, to soften deeper into my body.

Grounding practice

This was the first energy tool that I grabbed for. It was a very interesting experience of detachment for me right here.

As I practiced grounding, even though the world was spinning in my mind, I held on to my core that felt strong within and focused on connecting to Mother Earth. I KNEW that my body safe that I was safe. As I practiced that I felt myself separate from that physical reality of spinning that I no longer wanted to create and focused very strongly on my grounding. That helped me to re-center my beingness and become rooted in Self.

“Find that sweet spot between ambitions and prioritising rest. It’s enough, being the only one in my life valuing and prioritizing rest. I don’t need to shift my internal compass to match that of a partner friend in order to belong because by doing so I am missing a major opportunity to belong to myself. We strengthen our relationship with ourselves – with our inner voice, our intuition – but we need to listen to it. See rest as a part of a whole instead of a unending resource that we can keep taking from without ever restoring or taking a pause to reinvest our own energy resources.” – The Deep Exhale

Recommitting to rest

I recommitted to prioritizing ME.

I am prioritizing my sleep, because getting enough sleep and waking up fresh in the morning, feeling well-rested matters to me. How I show up in the world matters to me. It allows me to be fully present in my connections with others. Presence is a value that I hold highly in my life <3
